The painting shows a historic British clipper ship of the 19th century. First the ship transported tea from China, then wool from Australia then was used as a training ship.
It represents the pinnacle of clipper ship design and was one of the fastest ships of its day. This is one of the last representatives of the sailing fleet, which was replaced by steamships. The artist saw this marvellous ship at Greenwich Dry Dock, where it is on display.
